Audience theories

The hypodermic model:
Media is like a syringe that injects ideas attitudes and beliefs into the audience. This could be faltered because it’s not necessarily true for everyone, it’s too simplistic.
E.g. - the coronation street killer

Uses and gratification theory:
Based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
Why we watch what we watch
Information
Personal identity
Integration and social interaction
Entertainment
